Like yourself probably, for many years I’ve been sleeping on a terrible innerspring mattress, constantly waking up with back pains and a terrible mood. And last year I decided to change that and I didn’t know where to start. There were just so many choices and materials and I was pretty overwhelmed. So I decided to make this article featuring what I have learned, so that anyone can benefit.
Why is this even important?
While you may just go and choose a random mattress, if you consider how much of your life you spend sleeping (about one third if you didn’t already know), you come to realize that what you sleep on can actually have a huge impact on your mood, health and overall life quality. So with that in mind I decided to do my homework before rushing in to buy anything.

c. How do you sleep?
An important factor you should consider is the position in which you sleep, as this will give you more clues about which models best suit your body.
- Side: It is said that this is the best sleeping position. It is important to take care of the back line with a pillow covering the space between the neck and shoulder. For this position we recommend a mattress that combines firmness and softness to support your body in the best way. A firm mattress is recommended for this position.
- Backs: This position is not usually recommended, as it is more difficult to maintain the balance of the cervical curvature. It is best to use a pillow to fill the space between the mattress and neck to keep the neck in a neutral position. A slightly firmer mattress is recommended for this position, as you need support for the neck and lumbar region.
- Face down: This position is the least desirable because it forces strain on the ligaments & muscles and the curvature of the back is stressed. If this is your sleeping position, you must choose a firm mattress, to give you good support to the neck and lumbar region.

Another very important consideration when choosing your mattress is represented by your particular needs. You should feel comfortable in the mattress. This is somewhat subjective however.

3. Maintenance Tips

- If you feel the mattress is too soft or you fall to the center of the bed, it is because the wear eventually changed its natural shape. The purpose of the mattress is offering balance.
